Abstract

A multiplicative decomposition of the deformation gradient into elastic and transformation constituents has been employed in several continuum models of displacive phase transformation. The existence and precise nature of the intermediate configuration associated with such a decomposition has not been addressed to date. This work proposed a prescription for the intermediate configuration and also addresses the related matter of invariance under superposed rigid motion.
